Passenger Crew with Designated Safety Duties

Primary qualification

• Formal designation on the muster list and station bill by company and master.
• STCW Regulation V/2 training per duties: crowd management (A-V/2-1), safety training for personnel providing direct service to passengers (A-V/2-2) and crisis management and human behaviour for senior staff (A-V/2-3, indicative per muster list).
• Basic Training A-VI/1 and a valid medical certificate as the sign-on baseline.

Basic STCW

• A-VI/1 Basic Safety Training

Specific courses

• Ship-specific familiarisation: escape routes, vertical zones and alarm systems
• Periodic abandon-ship and fire drills (SOLAS Ch. III) with simulated passengers
• Multilingual emergency communication and PA use (company practice)

Indicative experience

No seagoing minimum of its own: the requirement is designation plus V/2 training on assuming duties, with recorded participation in the ship's drills. V/2 training must be refreshed at least every 5 years (2016 amendments to the Convention).

Observations

Applies equally to hotel and entertainment staff when the muster list assigns them duties: it is how an entertainer or waiter becomes emergency crew. Spain: DGMM passenger-ship specialty certificate (indicative, verify the order in force).
