Primary qualification
- Higher vocational or engineering in electronics, instrumentation or telecoms, fluent in control loops and calibration.
- Ex/ATEX-IECEx training to work equipment in explosive atmospheres (CompEx scheme as reference — indicative).
- BOSIET/FOET with CA-EBS, offshore medical and A-VI/1 per flag.
Basic STCW
- A-VI/1

Specific courses
- F&G and ESD systems: maintenance, controlled inhibits and periodic testing
- Drilling-package PLC/SCADA and the installed OEM (NOV/Siemens — per unit)
- Segregated industrial networks, basic OT cybersecurity and radio links
- DP reference maintenance (sensors, gyros, MRU) under the ETO/OEM
Indicative experience
Indicative: 2-4 years in industrial instrumentation or marine electronics before the first hitch; versatility (instruments + networks + F&G) is what secures the billet.
Observations
On DP-2/DP-3 units the reference systems are critical to holding position over the well: interventions are coordinated with bridge and ETO. Progression: ET → Senior ET/Instrument Supervisor → ETO (via STCW III/6) or OEM specialist.
What this role does
The unit's all-round electronics and instrumentation technician: maintains fire-and-gas detection, drilling-package instrumentation, industrial and IT networks, internal comms, CCTV and PA, and supports DP-system maintenance where fitted. The profile bridges the electrical, control and IT worlds.
