What you need to perform it

Primary qualification

  • An RD 875/2014 personal-watercraft title matching the power (or a PER, which covers PWs) plus the commercial endorsement the harbour master requires (verify the local regime).
  • Personal-watercraft monitor/guide training (powerboating federation or operator) with supervised practice.
  • Valid aquatic lifesaving and first aid with CPR; mandatory liability insurance and activity authorisation.

Basic STCW

  • Basic Safety Training STCW A-VI/1 (if commercially dispatched vessel)
  • PNB — Basic Navigation Skipper (minimum for recreational activity)

Specific courses

  • Advanced PW riding: turns, wave climbing and righting after capsize
  • Group guiding: formations, signals, spacing and managing stragglers
  • Regulatory briefing: bathing zones, buoyed channels and local speed limits
  • SRC/VHF and the base's emergency protocol

Indicative experience

Indicative: a season as base assistant and demonstrable riding hours before leading excursions; real progression is marked by incident handling without consequences.

Observations

PW rental and excursions follow each harbour master's instructions (ages, zones, mandatory monitor per modality) — verify the current provincial instruction. Progression: monitor → base chief → beach-concession management.

Guides and trains personal-watercraft users: on a closed circuit controls rotation and student spacing; on excursions, leads the line formation, sets speed and route, reads the coast's sea and weather and answers for a group of novice riders coming back complete. Key responsibilities

  • Lead group excursions aboard jet skis.
  • Teach basic jet ski operation to clients before departure.
  • Ensure that the navigation zones and maximum speeds allowed are respected.

  • Ensure that all clients have their life jackets on correctly.
